You are taking in consideration the sheer size of the US compared to a country like Switzerland.

Of all the possible pharmaceutical companies and doctors in the US you only have 18000 patents... compared to Switzerland that has 400 patents for how many swiss based pharmaceutical companies and doctors?

Yes... the US applied for more patents... but give me a percentage of health care professionals involved in R&D compared to a country like Switzerland.
