I have repeatedly made the point that government programs do not have a glowing history of delivering decent product for a reasonable cost. I have mentioned many examples of this. You'd think people would learn from years of experience, if nothing else.
That the actual goal of national health care is power is proved again and again by advocates constantly rejecting non-statist solutions that could achieve the same goals of making medical care cheaper and more accessible, in favor of solutions that won't work as well but will centralize the control. You might note that this applies to other issues, like energy.
There's a reason some politicians hate the free market. It isn't because it doesn't deliver prosperity--the entire 20th century proved beyond a shadow of a doubt which system does that and which systems don't--it's because there's no power in a market-run system for them. It runs without needing an admiral to pilot it. Maybe the janitor has to come in and oil the machinery now and then. Nobody in Washington wants to be the janitor.
I know politics in Washington and Sacramento only from what I read. I know the local politicians a bit more closely. For every politician who got into the business to do good for society, I would say there are at least two who got into it because they get a hard-on from being able to run other people's lives. You know...the kind of people bred in homeowners' associations.
You can usually spot the first kind--the real altruists. They're the ones that quit after a term or so because they can't stand the crap.
