You keep labeling it socialism too. I'm sorry Tom but a few social programs within a democratic framework does not equal socialism. I would hate living in a society that resembled the horrible years of Stalin or Lenin. No sane individual wants that but the unbridled greed that produces fascism is as much of a threat or more to our society.
You say you don't like socialism, but you also apparently feel that nationalizing an entire sector of American industry (added to the nearly-half of the Federal budget we already spend on social entitlements), comes under "a few social programs." Not sure where you're drawing the line between freedom and socialism, but I bet it's not the same place I'd draw it.
You wouldn't know real fascism if it rode past you on a unicycle, juggling live porcupines. Do some research.
Our national model now includes requiring employers, those heroes of free enterprise that you so value, to shoulder the burden of providing health care insurance for their employees and it's bringing these titans of industry to their knees financially. They are no longer competitive on a global scale.
Tell me, who's going to pay for the insurance once the "burden" has supposedly been taken off our corporations? Where's that money coming from? Give that a LOT of thought before you answer.
Starting my own company? I have been in on the start of several businesses, and health insurance benefits were purchased off the open market from private entities, usually as part of larger benefit packages. It was expensive, but didn't break the bank. Nobody is legally forced to do so...although I suspect that's only a matter of time...but it is expected if you want to draw the better employees.
I have the answers. You just don't like them.
