...came from simple math applied to the average American's healthcare needs. Just as everyone else with "official numbers" claims to create.
With 60% of the population obese, that means we have 180,000,000 million Americans ready for medical treatment and prescriptions for weight related ailments alone - right now. Assume that even 50 percent of these folks get their "free" blood pressure medicines and diuretics, cholesterol treatments, as well as surgical options and we have an "Insta-burden" of at least 90,000,000 times $10,000 - because you and I both know when the demand for these drugs needs to be met the price charged to the government will go up drastically!
That's $900,000,000,000 in prescriptions, doctor hours, facility expenses just for the 1/2 of the large obese segment of the populace getting immediate treatment on a universal system.
Robert and all the rest are basing their assumptions on small nations costs. Once the US tries to do it for everyone at once those fundamental costs will increase - probably double or tripling at the very least. New facilities will be needed. New hospitals. New factories to produce the drugs.
Like I said to Robert: Figure at least 30 trillion a year - for a fully working universal coverage system in the US after all the new expenses and prices are taken into account.
And that's saying we bar illegals from treatment. If we don't, and I suspect we wont, add a large percent of the population of Mexico to the equation and go ahead and throw in a few other nation's stragglers as well and add at least another 15 trillion to the yearly price tag.
