Space/Science » in reply to Custome cars versus mass production

I dunno man.

Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.

They make their cars with buyer-specs. They make cookie-cutter cars, even share component suppliers with their competition, but they do customize to a certain degree if the buyer tells them ahead of time. They also make limited runs of fleet vehicles, some that run on alternate fuel systems, and other hop-ups, like heavier suspension, stuff like that.

More obviously, they make prototypes for car shows. Lots of them, every year. I don't believe that limited runs are outside of their capabilities. From what I've seen, they should be able to make a road-worthy tilting three-wheeler, and bring it to market. Hell, half the parts would probably be off-the-shelf from motorcycle manufacturers. Like I said, they are in the cookie-cutter car industry already, why not share component manufacturers with motorcycle makers too?
