If the auto industry listened to so called experts like Zubrin (has he ever even talked at an industry event???) that may be the grim future once oil runs out.
But one advantage of a free market, unlike the aerospace industry, is that the market not the experts decide the future. The fact that nearly all the major firms are investing large sums of their OWN money in hydrogen auto programs and are already producing test vehicles, shows that the industry research feel Zubrin to be completely wrong.
Unlike you the industry hasn't resigned itself to accept the evironmental model of gloom and doom but is working to prevent it. And that is why Malthus and the other evironmental doomsayers are constantly proved wrong, because American industry never acceots their dire predictions and rolls over dead. Instead they work to make the future bright for our kids instead of just giving up and accepting we will have to lower our standard of living to that of a third work nation.
This Zubrin guy show try submitting his article to one of the industry publications, instead of an anti-technology magazine like New Atlantis whose editors know NOTHING about engineering other then its "Evil". Who knows, maybe he already did and the editors who actually have knowledge of the technology involved, and believe in a brighter future for humanity, laughed themselves silly before rejecting it and that is why it ended up where it did.
