Bush Senior had put checks and balances in place to stop another armed conflict between the U.S. and Iraq. Bush Junior IGNORED everything his father put in place, or walked right over it.
The US sanctions were placed by Clinton. The UN sanctions were from Papa Bush's term.
Bush used the American people's insecurity about terrorists to justify going after the oil supplies under Iraq.</'i>
Anyway, thanx for justifying the Battle for Iraq. We were insecure, as proven on September 11, 2001. We remain insecure, but not nearly at the level we once enjoyed, thanx to the permanent removal of Hussein & Co.
Now, I know you have no problem with your government slaughtering Iraqi civilians. Clearly, you hate god and have no compassion for your fellow man.
Crap statements that are best ignored.
What I don't get is why you think that Bush going after Saddam helps you. Yes, you. Specifically.
* Iraq had ties with international terrorism groups (that's plural, okay?).
* Iraq was a proponent for the removal, by any means, of Western affiliation in the Middle East, which included Israel and NATO member Turkey.
* Iraq continued to assert that the state of Kuwait was still considered their 19th province, as had been claimed by former Premier Kassem (assassinated by the Ba'ath Arab Socialist Party in 1963 [I guess they agreed with some of his policies]).
* Iraq was a proponent for the use of WMD, as demonstrated in Hussein's "recent" history.
* Iraq was a monetary supporter for terrorist acts against the state of Israel.
* Iraq had the very real potential of supplying its terror affiliates with WMD for use against any and all Western countries.
* Iraq opposed the UN sanctions, at every turn.
* Iraq opposed the US sanctions, with missile launches at unarmed surveillance aircraft.
* Iraq continued to threaten Kuwait, Israel, and Turkey, calling upon Ba'athists and Muslims the world over to unite in deadly battle against the US, up to the date of the US attack.
(Some light reading on the topic)
>such a nice guy<
To make a long story short, the media played the prez like a bass drum, prompting the nation to move forward into Iraq. Yeah, the media -- as prompted by free citizens the world over who bought their news. Ratings skyrocketed, and a new series was born on Real TV, called the Battle for Iraq.
I rather enjoyed it myself. Much better than voting some punk off some lousy island.
Well, the ratings are slipping today, so we'll need to find another nation to lean on.
Syria and Iran look very possible.
Bush is going to give a tax cut. What he should do is raise taxes and then use the money to fix certain aspects of this country... which would result in lower taxes. But, I wouldn’t expect a spineless "weekend warrior" armchair quarterback like yourself to have the balls to ask a politician to raise your taxes.
Now, you’re just being silly. Why should taxes be raised? Give me a good reason. The abo0ve don’t quite cut it.
Next, Bush hasn't done ANYTHING to make America safe from terrorists. He's passed the Patriot Acts I and II which violate the civil rights that you're too ignorant to realize that you have or rather HAD. He's created a mutual foe for Pan-Arabia and Pan-Islam. Think back (I know... twice) to when we uncovered that tape of Osama Bin Laden preaching support for the Iraqi people... that the people of Iraq should band together and strike back against America.
I have news for you, idiot: that was the single most frightening thing that has happened in this whole conflict.
Oh. Guess you really are new to life. Listen up, Dummy. We went into Iraq fighting Iraqis. That we are still fighting Iraqis really shouldn’t be such a big shock to you.
Okay. Let’s see:
* Taking the homeland away from al-Qai’da did nothing against international terrorism.
* Monitoring the activities of questionable Middle East visitors to the US did nothing against international terrorism.
* Taking down a supplier and trainer of terrorists (i.e., Hussein & Co., bin Laden & Co.) did nothing against international terrorism.
* Local area emergency reaction drills did nothing against international terrorism.
* Closing frontiers nations bordering on terror supporting nations did nothing against international terrorism.
* Stepped-up security measures did nothing against international terrorism.
* Taking the War on Terrorism to the source did nothing against international terrorism.
* Coalition arrests of suspected terrorists around the world did nothing against international terrorism.
* Working with Yemen's government to prevent terrorists from reassembling there did nothing against international terrorism.
* Forcing the world to choose between states that support terror and states that do not did nothing against international terrorism.
* The fact that U.S. soldiers "understand the mission, understand why they are in Iraq and they understand the greater mission in which the war in Iraq is just one part," does nothing against international terrorism (quote is from Joint Chiefs Chairman Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, at the Pentagon, Aug. 5, 2003). Oh, you’ll get the occasional whiner out there, but it’s to be expected, and the media likes to hunt for them.
* Published increases in national defense spending does nothing against international terrorism.
* Being firm, strong and diligent against terrorists the world over does nothing against international terrorism.
I will agree that the Western medias reporting only Coalition casualties and seldom a single enemy casualty does nothing against international terrorism -- but then that’s just my hate of journalisms in general.
Osama and Saddam are BITTER enemies. They absolutely despise one another and their corresponding peoples. For Osama to get on Iraqi TV and tell the Iraqi people to be strong against us and for them to LISTEN is the single most idiotic thing the Bush administration is responsible for.
Sorry. Didn’t hear Bush & Co. calling for “the Iraqi people to be strong against us†(I believe the actual call was for a holy jihad against the Wester Coalition Forces, and the United States of America in particular [I.e., kill ‘em all and let Allah sort ‘em out]). You have a different report that sources the White House for that?
When your father, someone who is not a C student and a former director of the CIA and the current CIA director tell you, "Don't mess with Iraq" and you do it anyway... well, that's pretty fucking dumb
And one for that? Of course I would prefer them both “in†context.
Cheers,
Dan
