Killing is killing: method irrelevant.

In an empirical sense, this is true. Unfortunately, we have more highly developed nervous systems than ants do.

Deliberately setting people on fire is a form of torture. Death by torture is a horror, one which is now being used by the Administration to justify invading Iraq, btw. (Bad when they do it, good when we on our high white horse do it? Would it have been OK if Saddam's people had only tortured members of the military, and not civilians?) Torture allows the victims the luxury of pain over an extended period. It has been used by many of the greatest monsters in the history of the world. Is this the company we seek to keep?

When we get to the point where we say baldly what is implied here, that method is irrelevant and result is all that matters, let me know. On that day, I can rob a bank with a clear conscience, knowing that I will give all the money to the poor, and no one can nail me for it, for the end will be the justification for the means.
