Part of the sales pitch for the war against Iraq was that our forces would prosecute the war in the most enlightened and civilized manner possible. We'd avoid civilian casualties, and we promised to kill the least number of Iraqi soldiers consistent with getting the job done. OK, we didn't promise to kill them cleanly and to not use terror weapons, maybe you got me on a technicality...but isn't that implied in all the propaganda about our enlightened approach to warfare? Was that, too, bullshit?
"Shock and awe" was billed as a circus of generally nonlethal psychological weapons, like power-station and communications zappers, and precision lethal strikes against government buildings that leave adjacent buildings standing. Napalm is inconsistent with either tactic. It's a terror weapons whose mass destruction is indiscriminate. Yeah, it induces "shock and awe", but not the kind that's going to increase respect for America and its military.
Nor would VX. How can we simultaneously denounce the "Axis of Evil" for trying to acquire such things when we ourselves cling to them?
I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. Smells just like napalm.
