It does matter
How you save your own neck does matter, especially when the context of "saving your neck" is a war that you yourself started. We chose to put our necks into the noose in the first place.
The context of this whole discussion about napalm is the propaganda used to sell the war, that American forces would fight an enlightened, civilized war. If that's our promise, then we can expect to gain or lose points on killing style. We set that standard ourselves, so there's no point whining now about getting dinged for failing to live up to our own standard. We're hoist on our own petard.
I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. Smells like napalm.
