Or not?
Or is this going to be like Iraq, where we bounce from Hot Internet Blogger Topic to Hot Internet Blogger Topic forever. Because the Internet Monkeys can bang them out a whole lot faster than I can shoot them down doesn't mean that in the end, thery're right. It just means they can spin faster than the truth can catch up with.
And that is a whole new form of dishonesty.
"More crap. You know what? We could do this all day.
I have seen nothing at all that indicated the convention center was picked out as a pre-planned refuge. In fact, if you look up the New Orleans disaster plan (no longer online, apparently. Wonder why), neither was the Superdome. There were no plans to use the convention center prior to the hurricane. From this August 30th news story:"
So How long before Katrina would it have to have been identified as a refuge for it to be 'pre-planned'. My original notes (can't finds the link, unfortunately) have that the radio stations in NOLA started announcing it the morning of the 27th (WYLD announced it first) I believe. But MAYBE a pre-published emergency response plan wasn't Mailed in Triplicate to FEMA 8 months prior- So what!?
How does this in any way excuse FEMA for not knowing about the thousands of people there for days? It was announced at some point... The people sdidn't just spontaneously generate there. My Google research says that it had been a topic of media coverage at least since the 29th. What more do you want?
As for the superdome, Yes- prior emergency scenarios had included the supedome as a refuge. The NOLA Picayun reported on it in a multi-part series some years ago.
Is your complaint going to be that FEMA didn't know going in? Because there were cameras from all major news outlets interviewing people in line at the superdome before the storm.
This is just rediculous.
Lets turn it around. In The Broszian world view, FEMA isn't responsible for planning ahead and consulting Academics and Experts in the face of a predicted strategy(Levees failing in a cat 3).
They are are not responsible for planning ahead, that even when notified of a need for federal intervention (as Blanco did in the 27th) unless, MAYBE, that notification comes using 'special words' (uncle? superplease with sugar on top?) and through 'special channels' (triplicates fed-exed to the regional office for circulation upwards?).
FEMA is not responsible for not mounting a massive relief effort for the first 72 hours after a tragedy, even when the tragedy was predicted 48 hours before it happened (means FEMA has 120 hours to go grab a cold one and write a few IMs before it gets on the ball).
FEMA is not liable for finding out where the people on the ground, needing rescue, were told to congregate- and should be allowed to take 2-3 days to figure it out.
FEMA doesn't need to put anyone on duty to watch the major news channels for information that may be vital.
FEMA doesn't even need to be aware of what the media is reporting.
Just because the head of FEMA, a shill with no Emergency Management experience, gets canned doesn't mean anything went wrong. Nope, perfectly peachy.
Are you at all dizzy here? Can you smell your own bullpucky yet?

- One thing you said, in all of that glop, was meaningful
- You missed the main point and dodged others
- Which was easy, because there was no main point, nor any others

- So what if he lied. So what if Bush lied. What's the difference?
- Context
- Agreed, start to finish
- go ahead, blame Bush.
- For non-response by an agency administered by the Executive branch of which he is the head? Sure!
- go ahead, blame Bush.
- Levee failure
- This is silly
- what preparation would have prevented the levy failure?

- for every thread, spin,spin,spin
- Lets assume everyone knew the levy was going to fail 60-70 hours before Katrina.
- Thats sort of the point- they *should* have known the levees were going to fail 36-48 hours out, and ended up doing nothing
