Arab Muslims what pretty much the same very basic things you and I want. Food, shelter and peace, but no amount of optimist or believe that they want a free society will make that the case.
A small point. They are tribal and have sever religious based laws that prevent much of the ideas of democracy as we see it from being germane to them. An example: the folks (Shi'ites) who will have the majority of seats in the new Iraqi government don't want women to have any freedoms of any sort and have and do resort to brutally killing their wifes, sisters and daughters when they believe them to be "damaged" by members of other tribes.
