Maybe a suicidal rogue terrorist might attempt it but not the leader of an established country. I still believe that behind the scenes we've made it abundantly clear that any country that can be traced back to an atomic bomb that blows up in the United States or one of its allies will be decimated by a follow up attack. That threat held the powerhouse Soviet Union at bay for decades.
Saddam was simply not the suicidal religious wacko type that would've done something so patently stupid. You don't see him now telling the court to kill him for the cause. Leaders that possess the technology and knowledge required to build a nuclear weapon also know that those weapons can be traced to their country of origin if exploded. So had Saddam gotten the bomb, what's the worst that could've happened? Maybe he'd suddenly have become less insecure about his neighbors and actually mellowed. It seems to happen to nuclear powers.
We've gone over it before. The one thing history has shown is that once a country goes nuclear, they rapidly find themselves with something they can't use...oh except us, but there was no competition then.

- re: The Germans had been the invaders (n/t)
- I believe Raoul's point is that the Germans were no more invited into Belgium than we were invited into Iraq.
- Okay, if we're going in that direction...
- The USSR had already entered Germany from the other direction.
- That doesn't change the issue at all.
- If you wish to fight on the battlefield of history, you must deal with the facts as they are.
