America: Change It or Lose It

I always like that retort. It recognizes the fact that dynamic reexamination and reorganization, not language or landmarks, make America what it is.

People who want those who "don't like things" to leave are inviting the fate of the Latin language on the American spirit. Latin, spoken throughout the Middle Ages, became so venerated during the Renaissance that it lost its flexibility to keep its "purity", and so ceased to be responsive to the needs of everyday use.

Let's make America pure. Let's encourage those who don't think it's perfect to leave. Let's build a mausoeum for the American Spirit next to the Washington Monument.
