I'm a bit fuzzy on parts, so if there are any experts out there, feel free to correct me.
There was a revelation subsequent to the New Testament recorded in the Book of Mormon. It comprises an additional batch of history, preaching, and parables that are added to the New and Old Testaments in their faith. It covers God's and man's activities in the New World prior to Columbus.
God's misfavor for a set of people could be seen in their darkened skin. Christ made an appearance.
A lot of the Book of Mormon is contradicted by archaeological evidence. For instance, there were supposed to be horses here.
The original Mormons had it tough. People thought of them as a cult so they packed everything up and went exploring to the West. Settled by the Salt Lake. Went for the multi-wife thing in a big way. Have an additional layer of modesty, and protection from carnal thoughts, represented by article of clothing referred to as the "garment" - sort of an extra set of underwear.
