Are you serious?

For starters, I'm not talking about hundreds of years ago. I'm talking about right now.

You make it sound in your post as though the radical Islamists are more angered with non-believers than Christians and yet, if you look through history, Muslim persecution has primarily been a result of Christian militarism.

Please look through history again. The spread of Islam was not accomplished by posting fliers on trees, and things like the Crusades were a tiny part of that history.

Yeah, I wouldn't feel necessarily safe walking through the streets of a Muslim area in Yemen or Syria but my fear would mostly be generated by the distaste they have for Americans not American atheists.

Tell them you're an Canadian atheist. See what happens.

However, I would be willing to bet I would generate a whole lot less hatred worldwide among Muslim people by walking around with a Charles Darwin t-shirt than one depicting Jesus.

Not true. Muslims revere Jesus as a prophet. In Muslim nations, Christians are treated, at best, with tolerance. From there the range moves into condescension, and goes downhill from there. Never mind Jews.

For a more interesting experiment in comparative tolerance, try putting on an art exhibit with a picture of Mohammed submerged in a vial of urine. Then name a Teddy Bear Jesus.
