My post was an answer to TAFKASE.

He suggested that atheists run for office to correct the injustice. For atheists to do that would require them to run as atheists, because religious oppression would be the issue.

Romney has made statements that imply that people of faith are better than people without faith, in an effort to justify his own faith and make it more acceptable to other believers who are afraid of Mormons. If he is a "Them", he has to become part of "Us". What would be a better way to become a part of "Us" than to create a different "Them", a smaller "Them" who present no political threat to him? The Unbelievers are the perfect "Them".

It would have been more difficult to make the case that we are all "Us", even though we don't all believe the same thing, and some of "Us" don't believe anything at all. It would have been brave. Mr. Romney doesn't do that kind of thing well. He changes his politics to suit the electorate he's trying to woo.

I don't trust Mr. Romney. I don't trust him as a liberal, because he turned his back on all the liberal stuff he supported when he was governor of Massachusetts. I wouldn't trust him if I were a conservative because his change of mind was so very convenient. My distrust of him as a candidate has nothing to do with his adherence to his Mormon faith. It has to do with his lack of commitment to any other inconvenient ideas.
