Ok, let's play here. Which Christian leaders in the world today are causing the most problems for Muslims? Seems like the number one source of anger right now is aimed right at a fundamentalist Christian president that talks about having conversations with his god to help him formulate his foreign policy. Oh wait, you must be talking about all the atheist legislators and heads of the military today. Wait, there aren't any that I can think of?
Oh, yeah, we can play.
I'm going to tell you something you're going to suppress as soon as you read it.
The 9/11 attack was planned and begun before Bush was elected. The previous terror attacks on U.S. interests happened before Bush was elected. The first attack on the Twin Towers happened before Bush was elected. In fact, many of these attacks happened while the president was a wonderful person, with flawless foreign policy, and beloved by all nations around the world. Not like the one we have now.
It isn't about who the president is. It wasn't back then, either.
There have been Muslim terror attacks in many nations, including non-religious ones like Russia, and nations like Britain, Spain, and others who certainly can't be accused of having heavily religion-oriented leadership. In fact, if you look at all the attacks, the target is often other Muslims who have committed the lethal crime of not being the "right kind" of Muslim.
It isn't about anger with fundamentalist Christians.
You think you're going to get let off the hook because you're not a Christian? Or a Jew? Or a Republican?
Sorry, Art. The radical Islamists wouldn't give you a pass just because you're one of the Reasonable Guys.
We're dealing with people who think others need to die simply because they're "other." And they kill with bombs wrapped around themselves, bombs wrapped around babies, bombs hidden in ambulances, and bombs driven into crowds of kids getting candy. They kill with swords across the neck, with guns shooting fleeing schoolchildren in the back, and with planes full of weeping passengers plowed into giant office buildings full of innocent workers of all races and creeds. If they ever get half a chance, they'll kill with weapons of mass destruction.
But by convincing yourself that it's all about Christian fundamentalism, or George Bush, or whatever U.S.-related thing is on the list, you can avoid thinking about the tiger out there, and you can pretend the real problem is the stuffed straw dummy hanging from the tree. It's a lot safer beating the dummy with a stick than the tiger.
I now return you to your original program. The real threat is prayer in schools.
