Perhaps you're putting the cart before the horse
Politician first, religionist second; and because of that, you can never quite trust the sincerity of a politician's claims of piety. Lord knows, if you'll forgive the expression, it was remarkable how so many Republican politicians saw the light at the same time a couple of decades ago, just in time to court the religious conservative voting bloc to put them over the top.
Hang on to the cynicism, Bowser. Dissing politicians is seemlier than dissing Christians.
