Ok, let's play here. Which Christian leaders in the world today are causing the most problems for Muslims? Seems like the number one source of anger right now is aimed right at a fundamentalist Christian president that talks about having conversations with his god to help him formulate his foreign policy. Oh wait, you must be talking about all the atheist legislators and heads of the military today. Wait, there aren't any that I can think of?
No Tom, when an Arab angry with the US thinks about us it's almost entirely certain he's going to have the image in his mind of a pure unadulterated WASP. Were I devising the textbook for the Muslim schoolchildren to turn them into terrorists my cartoon caricatures wouldn't be of liberal, atheist, sandal-wearing college professor. It would be the greedy, conservative, militaristic, Christian fundamentalist hanging out at a NASCAR race.
Let's quit the cute stuff about Jesus having a place in the Muslim religion. Of course we know he's a character in the Koran but there's a difference between acknowledging the dude and wearing a t-shirt with the Kenny Loggins version of his face version emblazoned on it. I'm pretty sure it's not a best-seller in Ramadi.
Look guy. I was a Christian for years and we got pumped into us this notion we had to go out and convert the world to Jesus so I'm sure the Muslim world has had its share of the typical Christian proselytizing from its visitors. When atheists visit foreign lands and cultures we really have no desire to convert anybody to anything. We just want to be left alone. I have the feeling, if you asked most Muslims TODAY who was more threatening to them, the atheists and agnostics would barely rate.
