"I'm constantly amazed by how much fear there is of America turning into a "theocracy," while the same people are often completely unconcerned by the real theocracies trying to destroy Western society."
Who are you speaking for here? To somehow imply that everyone that's concerned about theocratic control of America doesn't care about what's happening in the rest of the world is just more of your reframing bullshit.
Of course we are concerned with extremism wherever it occurs but let me put it to you this way. If you discover that your spouse is abusing your children but that your neighbors down the street also have an abuse problem, which fucking problem do you tackle first?
I'm sorry but we have zero credibility to take on fundamentalist issues around the world if we allow our own religious extremists to bully their way into American politics.
Sheesh. Give me a fucking challenge here at least.
