Who's running a campaign based on religion?

I think you are mistaken if you believe Romney is running a campaign based on his religion. His religion is the basis of his core beliefs and values, but that can be said about anybody. Your values have a basis somewhere as well, be it your duties as a librarian, mother, or your catholic upbringing and catholic rejection. My own values come mainly from my religion, but they also come from the type of employment I do, my hobbies, my experiences at the habitable zone...

Romney is running a campaign in spite of his religion, which at the moment seems to be a major anchor he's lugging around with him. I find it refreshing he doesn't just weigh anchor and cast off his religion with the same lightness other politicians use to put it on. While his campaign may be substantially different than what you want in a president, nobody expects him to please everyone. Frankly I'm surprised to hear many would prefer a liar.

Romney didn't get elected governor because he ran a mormon campaign . He'd be a fool to try and do so in a Presidential race. Romney was against making a JFK speech for some time. He hoped it wouldn't be necessary in order to win over the biases of the christian community. Apparantly he decided it was necessary after being asked by so many to do it. I already wrote my views of the speech and don't think he hit the ball out of the park with his speech, but at the same time its not really fair to judge his whole campaign based on one speech he gave where he didn't give much acknowledgement to the secular community and pretend he has nothing but contempt for them because of it.
