re: Robert You're Over Generalizing Again

Overgeneralizing? As Fox points out, the slogan "no blood for oil" predates the Iraq invasion by many years. But as Bush portrays the war in Iraq as the cornerstone of American policy in the Middle East, then the issue of "blood for oil" isn't an issue limited only to Iraq--using Bush's own logic, "blood for oil" is the major issue of American Middle East policy in general. The two aren't separable.

Phrase it as blood for oil and that's something that inflames people.

Uh huh. Have you noticed that shrieking "treason!" is inflammatory? Are you saying that only Rightists are allowed to make inflammatory statements?

What's the intent of a terrorist attack? By definition it's not to inflict material damage on the target, but to inflict a social trauma. The tactic of terrorism is a sort of military judo, applying a minimum of force in such a way as to cause the opponent to defeat itself through social and political breakdown. The explicit goal of terrorism is to sow social chaos, to cause the people to lose faith not only in their government but in each other. To sow distrust...to provoke factions to war with each other instead of the real enemy.

Understanding the goal of terrorism, there's a case to be made that the Right's policy of deliberately promoting polarization and distrust, of labeling the enemy not the terrorists but a group of their fellow citizens, very directly furthers the agenda of the terrorists. This is the outcome they wanted.

bin Laden must chuckle each time he reads about another Rightist shrieking "treason!".

Which does more to further the terrorist cause? One grieving mother like Cindy Sheehan? Or the spectacle of the Right mobilizing one of its trademark hate campaigns against her, wallowing in the central sacrament of its political religion? Is America made weaker, or stronger, by fomenting division and hatred among ourselves?

Who's the terrorist dupe again?

If this be treason, so be it.

Here's the FBI's online tip form: https://tips.fbi.gov/. Go for it. If you honestly believe that my remarks represent treason, then under the doctrine of "misprision of treason", you have no choice but to turn me in.

But if I'm not committing treason, would you mind naming the people you think are committing treason?
