re: Robert You're Over Generalizing Again

"Uh huh. Have you noticed that shrieking "treason!" is inflammatory? Are you saying that only Rightists are allowed to make inflammatory statements?"

As I said before, Gary did not shriek "treason".
Personally, I don't give a rat's ass if someone shrieks "blood for oil", other than I don't like it that people display how stupid they are.

The reason why no Dem should be President is because they seem to have to foolish notion that the only "just" war is one that does not have a relationship to US national interest. People who think this way, should not be in charge of the Miltary.

The middle east is vital region not only because of the large quantities of oil in the region. You could say Texas is more about oil than the Middle east is about oil. Texas is not a ocean route to anywhere. Texas is not the cradle of western civilization. Texas is not the holy land to over a billion Muslims, nor the holy land of Christian and Jews. Texas does not border Europe, nor does it border Africa- though it does border Mexico.
The oil in Middle east is not just oil, it's cheap, cheap oil. Or you could say it's a money machine- it requires very little money to extract the oil compared to the money you can get from selling it. And it's at a distribution point to Europe and the East. The middle east has this wonderful thing to export, but the other side of this is that it also place that has the money to import products in exchange for these exports [and/or individuals or govt which lots of cash {capital} allow them to be investors/bankers to invest it in various things that need capital investments, e.g: http://www.itp.net/business/features/details.php?id=3061&category= The Arabian Kings of cash].

To say that the Middle east is all about oil, is similar to saying Israel is all about America Jews control of the US govt. Some part of story, sure. All of the story, no. And stressing it as sole reason, is attempt to distort issues and intended to be inflammatory.

If there was no oil in the middle east, oil prices would probably be about at same prices as there are today, and there would not be be a oil shortage, just as there is not an oil shortage today. Probably America would produce more oil domestically, in terms wealth probably America wouldn't be affected much, your consumption of oil wouldn't be much different. But middle east and east would be significantly affected in terms of the standard of living, but probably there would be a higher chance that countries in middle east were more democratic- because there would be a need for wealth to be generated from a middle class. But in any case the middle east would still be a vital region in terms of national security: still an ocean route, still cradle of western civilization, still the holy land.
