So Did I

But you're more concerned about your side winning political points that winning the battle against terror or the war in Iraq if you wish to differentiate it. No blood for oil was chanted before the war, it was also chanted before the first gulf war. That doesn't change the fact that the people hoping to stir anger against the US use it as a means to to portray our efforts in Iraq as a sinister theft rather than a liberation. You may believe it is that. I don't. I think there are those that know better and portray it that way anyway.

As I said to Robert it's all about intent not the words you use. Coopting phrases is irrelevant. Do you know what you are saying is wrong and do you know it has potentially harmful effects for your country? That is what matters not the words used. I stayed away from examples earlier precisely because it was obvious you guys would take such a tack if you didn't get the basic principle. There has been far to much taking things out of context and focusing on specific wording for me to expect otherwise.

A note on the iraq is not part of the war on terror issue. I think the war was justified on failure to comply with GW1 truce and UN resolutions alone. I wanted something more done before 911. However, I think the possibility of Saddam cooperating with Al-queida with wmd could not be tolerated. If you believe as I do that Bush did think Saddam had wmd and had personal belief in that as I did then it did make sense for him to be concerned about such cooperation. People act like that was hogwash yet you see cooperation between former baathists and AQ now. It's also hard to claim Saddam would have not rationally done that while ignoring that his behavior towards UN resolutions did not appear rational.

I'm not happy with Bush's postwar handling of the situation, but don't know for sure of a better way as all choices made were tough ones. The only thing I'm really pissed about as god damn incompetance is the prisoner abuse issue.

Mark
