Battle Fatigue?

What is so tough to understand about no other moderator admitting you made a mistake? If they don't get it and think you were right why should I believe they will not do the same thing when they have argued so vehemently for you here? Sorry if using you as an example to them seems like beating you with a dead horse. I really long ago accepted your statement of intent and your recent attempt at compromise.

What is so tough to understand that simply pledging to do better isn't good enough when I see an easy clear way to make sure this won't happen again especially when it's a simple rule that even those moderators that don't seem to get it can apply?

Honestly Robert I don't think these simple concepts are beyond you. If you're having trouble getting it I'm sure it's battle syndrome or fatigue.

Understand something Robert, Gary, Frank and Chris were as close to what I consider real friends as I think it's possible for people interacting mostly through the internet with at most occasional meetings. I'd consider MA on their par too but know I've pissed her off too much for her to reciprocate the feeling. Chris and I had a major falling out over the war, but we still got along fine at the last MS convention and I bare him no ill will over his heartfelt opposition to a stand I believe just as strongly in. I'd never accuse Chris of treason for his strong opposition not because I consider him a friend but because I know his comments come from the heart and aren't some political game. You jumped on someone I respect and like in a manner I firmly believe was wrong so this isn't some pathetic game like DL likes to play to me.

I honestly think you are a great moderator over 90% of the time and probably a better one than I could ever be, but I really dislike how much you dig in when you are called to task. You dug in hard on this issue and only after two long threads did you admit possible error. After such a hard battle to get you to admit error, I'd much prefer a simple objective rule to avoid such misunderstandings in the future than simply "I'll try to do better". When it took you so long to get the issue this time I'm afraid it's pretty likely that you won't see it ahead of time next time.

I've had strong disagreements with Gary too including one siding with Grondine of all people against him because I'll disagree with friend or foe when I think they're wrong. I'm a straight shooter now matter how you guys try to twist my words or how badly I mangle my intent through a poor choice of words as you did. I don't and never have claimed to be a master wordsmith, but I have good reason to be confident in other relevant qualities when it comes to sniffing out inconsistencies and logic faults in other's positions.

Regards,
Mark
