While winning the war against Saddam is true, we still need to win the war against terrorist in Iraq who want to turn Iraq into an al Qaeda based country like Afghanistan.
Leaving Iraq now would enable al Qaeda to take a stronghold in Iraq and eventually overthrow the new Iraqi government. The US and its coalition forces is the only force that can stop al Qaeda and the holdouts of Saddam’s evil government. The new Iraqi army and police forces can’t perform the job without our intelligences, logistics and coordination capabilities.
Iraq just doesn’t have the resources yet to handle conflicts like they are experiencing at this time and the United Nations can’t help either. All it would take is one bombing of a UN headquarters and they would be fleeing like they did the last time in Iraq.
Besides all that, leaving Iraq now would be a win for bin Laden. Leaving Iraq is just what bin Laden said the weak Americans would do in time and that would in itself give a giant boost to every terrorist around the world and every wantabe terrorist thinking about recruiting. It would also make recruiting easier for the terrorist in the future by showing them the US runs.
Leaving Iraq for the Iraqi’s to fend for themselves would show the world we Americans are weak, could careless if the Iraqi people get suppressed by the likes of Saddam or worse and can’t stay the course to follow through with what we said.
I doubt there would be any cheering by the US of the Iraqi people if we left now. More like, what have we done, after the dust has settled.
