Why go in the first place?

I've flamed you until my ears burned and I'm not about to go back there. We totally disagree on this "war", and THAT's never going to change.

You see this as some brilliant move for the US to have strategic bases over there, right there in the middle of the hornet's nest. Doesn't matter if we had them all contained, with enough firepower to take them out if they has so much as SNEEZED at Israel.

It never fails to amaze me that the most vocal supporters of war are those who will never go, or have kids that will ever go. It's easy for you, O SDAI-Tech1 to sit there in your crisp shirt with clean fingernails drinking your diet soda having strategic wet dreams how GOOD and STRONG we are that we can do WHAT we want, WHEN we want and to WHOMEVER we want.

>"The soldiers over there are not drafted - they are doing what they WANT to do. They WANTED to be soldiers."

Maybe 30% did, but a lot of those fresh faced kids at 18-22 are victims of our society who couldn't get a good job or go to college but who bought into the American "dream" because it offered them an education. These kids are coming back minus their arms and legs, with some serious psychological problems. My heart aches for some of these young men who are the same age as my son. We have put those young vulnerable men into harm's way and they are still "babies" to some degree. Some never had the time to grow up, even.

>"Iraq is a great place to do your job."

Typical Techie. If it's so great, why don't you JOIN them??

>"And most folks on the left will remember they really didn't give a damn about our soldiers anyway"

Fer chrissakes, that's EXACTLY why I am against this war of attrition and occupation, because innocent people on both sides are dying brutally for some PNAC thinktank and the CEO's of war and oil and defense industries who thought the WMD's would make a good excuse to grab Iraq's natural resources!!! The investigation isn't finished with Cheney yet. Or all the others.

Oh, and JUST FOR YOU, in case you forget where bad decisons lead, and WHO really pays for the war, I only hope you can go through a page or two of these photographs, which really are the end result of a bad decision in the first place.
