Of course it's political.

And political in an era where politics doesn't just mean your senator getting more highway projects because your party is in power, but may mean survival of American citizens.

We get two choices: Democrats or Republicans. I wish I could vote for Washington, Truman, Eisenhower, Reagan, or Lincoln. I can't. I get to vote for whoever the parties barf up every two to four years, and frankly, other than in local races, my vote hasn't really counted since I moved out here to California.

You think Bush was my ideal candidate in 2000? Who else did we get to choose from? McCain, who never met a principle he wouldn't sell out? Alan Keyes, a real theocrat? Steve Forbes would make a great Secretary of the Treasury. Not much of a president.

It does matter.

Missile Defense came up on another thread. One party thinks it should be developed. The other wants the program killed dead and buried in concrete.

One party thinks we should stay in Iraq until the job is done. The other would have us out in a year. If Kerry had won the presidency, we'd be out already, and Zarqawi would be running the Anbar province, or even a chunk of Baghdad.

This continues in other areas.

And that's just foreign policy. I could go over domestic stuff, too, but that isn't life-or-death. Just prosperity over poverty.

Of course it's political. We don't have a choice about it.

I'm glad you think I'm stupid, conditioned by "rings of the bell," while you are one of the "open minded, progressive thinkers." If there's one thing I've found a lot of liberals have in common, it's an amazingly inflated idea of their own brainpower, and contempt for anyone else's.
