I think that the perfect response would be for me to link you to the post I made where I linked to the pdf of Rumsfeld's notes (it wasn't Cheney, was it?) in '01 saying to go "big" after Iraq as a response to 9/11. It is pretty clear that they made up their mind to invade Iraq long before these speeches with "reasons" in them showed up. And at a time when their thoughts should have been entirely consumed with getting OBL.

Couldn't find it though. Couldn't find the link, either.
