And top o'the morning to you too, Mark.
I can tell that you were in a hurry when you posted that, so it probably would be better to hold off on the main discussion until you go off-shift. I'll just address the silliness in this one post and wait for the rest.
You are really confused, Mark. The term "treason" has a very special and specific meaning, and describes a criminal act. You yourself demonstrated in all your ranting that there are many alternative ways to express your displeasure with the political opinions of others, expressions that don't rise to the level of an accusation of a capital crime. Your choice (and Gary's) to use the term signals your intention to try and threaten the other person with criminal prosecution and even death for holding the opinions they do. That's the special meaning of "treason". If you and Gary don't really mean to accuse people of a crime, as you claim, then you can easily avoid the word "treason" with absolutely no abridgment of your right of free speech.
Can you yell "fire" in a crowded theater? We all know the answer to that old chestnut. It's equally as irresponsible of you and Gary to cry "treason" as casually as you do. Sure, it might be OK to yell "fire" if there actually is a fire. In the same way, you have the right to yell "treason!" if you know for a fact that the crime of treason has actually taken place. But in both cases it is absolutely wrong to use those words falsely.
This was a major clue that you were in a hurry:
Sex does not have to be defined as a crime just because certain sex acts are a crime.
Uh? What? Lemme see if I can help you untangle your pretzelized thoughts....how about this? What's the difference between "he likes 'em young" versus "he's a pedophile"? Basically the same concept, except that the latter formulation is an accusation of a crime. You can't use "pedophilia" metaphorically any more than you can use "treason" metaphorically. If you falsely accuse another person of pedophilia, you'll rightly find yourself flayed alive by lawyers.
BTW, speaking of "misprision of treason", in most states it's a crime to not report sexual abuse. Same damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't situation: If the accusation is true then failing to report it is a crime; if the accusation is false, you can be torn apart by a slander/libel lawsuit. See why you need to exercize a little caution with those wild accusations? It's not for my benefit alone that you should shut the hell up with the treason talk.
Any neurons firing yet?
